When we audited whistling stovetop kettles, the recurring gap was the handle. Listing after listing described a “cool touch” grip and never said what it was made of — which matters, because a handle that stays cool over a gas flame is a polymer, and a polymer sitting in the steam path is the one place plastic actually appears in an otherwise all-metal object.
One kettle on this page answers it outright. The Apusu listing states that the handle is heat resistant phenolic resin.
Phenolic resin is a thermoset plastic — it is what black saucepan handles and old electrical fittings are made of. Once cured it does not soften or re-melt, which is exactly why it has been used around heat for a century. It is a completely ordinary and appropriate material for the job.
That is the point. The answer is boring, and the seller told you anyway. Naming an unremarkable material costs nothing and removes the only genuine unknown a buyer has about the object. Four other kettles here left it blank.
On a gooseneck kettle the handle matters slightly more than on a whistling one, because you hold it for thirty to forty seconds of continuous pouring rather than lifting and setting it down. If a listing does not say, look at the photograph: black or dark brown moldings are almost always phenolic or a similar thermoset, and bare loops of steel or wood are self-evident.

This is the kettle for someone who wants to be told how to use it. It is the only listing here that prints the number the thermometer is for: brew at 195 to 205°F, and it explains what happens on either side — too hot burns the grounds, too cold gives weak extraction.

Rust and mineral buildup resistance both get a mention, and mineral buildup is the right thing to raise — a gooseneck kettle’s narrow spout is exactly where limescale accumulates and where you will notice it first as an uneven pour.

The only electric kettle here, and that is a real practical difference rather than a footnote. It needs no burner, it shuts itself off, and it frees a stove ring during the morning rush. For an office or a room without a cooktop it is the only option on this page that works at all.
It is also a Bodum, which means the design is good and the shape has been thought about.
And the listing makes no claims of any kind. We read the title and the full description and recorded zero materials statements — no steel grade, no handle material, nothing about the plastic in the lid or the water gauge, no mention of the heating element. “Stainless Steel” appears in the title as a description of the finish and nothing elaborates on it.
This is the second Bodum product we have audited that does this; the Chambord French press was the same. It is a consistent house style rather than an oversight, and on a site that scores what makers put in writing it produces a consistent result: a good product with a listing that opts out of the conversation.
An electric kettle also has more plastic in it than a stovetop one by necessity — a handle, a lid mechanism, usually a water window and a switch — which makes the silence more noticeable here than it would be on a plain steel pot.

How to actually pour
The kettle is only useful if the technique is, and pour-over technique is four things.
Bloom first. Pour just enough water to wet all the grounds — roughly twice the weight of the coffee — and wait thirty to forty-five seconds. Fresh coffee releases carbon dioxide, and gas in the bed pushes water away from the grounds. Letting it escape first is the difference between an even extraction and a channeled one.
Pour in slow spirals. Start at the center, work outward, stop short of the paper. Water poured down the side of the filter runs past the coffee without extracting anything.
Keep the bed level. If the grounds are piled up one side, water takes the path of least resistance and you get a cup that is both over- and under-extracted at once.
Aim for two and a half to three and a half minutes total. Much faster means the grind is too coarse; much slower means it is too fine. Adjust the grinder, not the pour.

How to choose a gooseneck kettle
Match capacity to how many cups you make. Twelve ounces is one mug. Around 34 to 40 ounces covers a household or a full carafe. A big kettle half-filled is fine; a small kettle is a second boil.
